TYPHOON METLAIR STEEL MAIN AIR TUNNELS / GRAIN DRYING TUNNELS / GRAIN STORAGE TUNNELS
Built to last…..
Typhoon Metlair Tunnels are supported by rigid, steel frames, formed from 4mm to 6mm plate (depending on storage depth).
The design of each customer’s tunnel is custom engineered to meet the storage demands of their grain store. To ensure the appropriate strength to withstand the side pressure from the grain, it is particularly important how the frames are formed, down to the dimensions, steel thickness and number of folds. Our stirrer tunnels are reinforced to withstand the additional side pressure created due to the change in the angle of repose of stirred grain.
The frames, which are fastened to the floor using Rawl Bolts and Liquid Anchors, are specially coated to prevent corrosion and the sides are clad with galvanized, corrugated panels, which are bolted to the frames, ensuring decades of trouble free use.
Our most popular tunnel sizes are 8′ x 4′ (2.4m x 1.2m) and 10′ x 5′ (3m x 1.5). These are then fitted with side extensions which allow storage up to 10′ (3m) and 12′ (3.6m) respectively. For deeper storage depths, we also provide a 12′ x 5′ (3.6m x 1.5m) tunnel, again with side extensions. All our tunnels are designed and manufactured in our own factory, so we can customise sizes as required.
Where a stirrer is being used in the store, the tunnel structure will be enhanced further to withstand the additional forces. Above tunnel fan houses require a solid platform of their own. These are incorporated into the tunnel design and custom engineered based on the fan sizes and floor space required in the fan house.
The store floor will also determine the tunnel design. Various Air Door types are available to suit Timber, Levelair Lateral or Concrete floors and sized to suit the channel depth. Where the tunnel is fitted down the side of a store, air doors will be fitted to only the applicable side of the tunnel.
Tunnel access doors are fitted either to the side or the end of the tunnel and, for safety reasons, larger tunnels can have 2 or more access doors added.
Access ladders are supplied with safety gates to reach the above tunnel walkway and raised fan house.
