| Low volume ventilation systems are most commonly used to control the temperature in 'dry' stores where the grain has already been dried down to the desired moisture content. They are, therefore, not resigned to reduce grain moisture content, but are used to blow cooling air through stored grain in order to prevent deterioration through overheating. Nevertheless, grain stored at moisture levels of up to 20% can be stored safely for a significant period of time, if the ventilation system can provide an adequate flow of air which will enable the temperature within the grain to be reduced to a level which will prevent sprouting, mould growth and insect activity.
